You will need to be a person who has a patient personality as this is an online program.
1. Make an application for the appraiser certification program. After the student application submission, an email will be sent out to those accepted into the online CAGA certification program. However, not everyone who applies to this class will be accepted into the program. We are limiting the number of participants for this personal property appraiser certification online class.
2. You will be notified before the session begins, then you may begin the appraiser certification program. The program includes on-demand course lessons. The on-demand lessons are web-based and may be taken with any computer. You should allow approximately 3 to 4 evenings to listen to the videos. You can also listen to all the videos all at once if you prefer. You do not need to wait.
3. After you complete the on-demand lessons, you will be given instructions on how to use the appraisal report computer program. The appraisal report writing computer program is Windows PC (Not Apple).
4. If you do not complete the program on time, you are eligible for a 3-day extension (one time only) for a late fee of $150.

The Admissions Assessment Quiz will help us determine the experience of our students as a whole. This quiz is not graded nor is it part of the program but it is required. It generally takes about 15 minutes.

The course is designed to give new appraisers a quick start in developing their own personalized appraisal business as well as learning personal property appraisal principles.
I am new to appraising. Can I take the Admissions Assessment Quiz and still learn the appraising profession?
I only want to appraise in one area. Do I have to learn about the other areas? For example, I am interested in appraising heavy equipment or farm equipment, do I have to spend time learning antiques?
No, the course is set up to teach you how to do appraisal research and to find values in the field you are interested in.
In addition, the course will teach the requirements for appraising for estates, bank collateral, charitable donations, gifts, insurance, etc. The course will teach you how and when to use the accepted valuation methods of fair market value, liquidation value, in-plant valuation, reproduction cost, assessed value and the two types of replacement cost. The course will also teach a handy way to help identify adjustments to make to the valuation on any item appraised.
You will only need very basic computer skills and internet access.
I am not comfortable using a computer, is this online course right for me?
I am a new auctioneer. Will this course teach me the values of all items that are normally sold at auction?
At the end of this course you will not know the value of everything sold at auction. No course can do that for every item sold at every auction in every location. You will learn how to research values and create a competent professional appraisal report meeting the requirements for the courts, banks, lawyers, accountants, tax authorities, and insurance.

Is there an appraisal report computer program included in my membership after I complete the course?
Yes, included in your membership after completing the course is a PC computer appraisal report writing program that will walk you through creating a professional appraisal report to turn into clients.
The computer program is free of charge for use by all members of the Certified Appraisers Guild. The video instructor will walk you through creating your own appraisal report together. This will simplify the process and give you a quick start to creating your own professional appraisal reports for your clients and other professionals.
You will also be approved to use the Certified Appraisers Guild logo on your website or any advertising, be listed in the CAGA website appraiser search and be listed in the online appraiser verification search used by potential clients, attorneys, judges, accountants, government officials and courts to verify your appraiser certification. You will receive advertising materials to use with your appraisal business and a sample prospect letter to use to contact potential clients.
Upon completion of the Admissions Assessment Quiz, the instructional videos and completing the test, you will be a certified personal property appraiser and receive the professional designation of CAGA.
Your appraiser certification is renewable each January. The 2024 membership for those attending the course in 2024 is included in your tuition upon completion of the course. The annual appraiser certification fee is $100. Access to the appraisal report computer program is free for members of the Certified Appraisers Guild.
Will I be certified after completing the course?
Does the appraisal report program work on Apple and PC computers?
The Appraisal Navigator™ is a Windows PC based program that creates reports on your own computer in Windows. With the Appraisal Navigator™ computer program, you will be able to create professional appraisal reports. The Appraisal Navigator™ appraisal report computer program is free to use for members of the Certified Appraisers Guild.
Any Windows PC computer will work. You can use the least expensive windows computer or even a used windows PC computer.
You can not run the Appraisal Navigator™ program on Apple but there are some programs that the new Apples have to allow PC programs to run on Apple. They are Boot Camp, VMWare Fusion, and Parallels. You will need to talk to Apple about them if you want.

Is there a continuing education requirement?
As long as a member stays active, no continuing education courses are required.
If you are accepted into the program:
1. Once you begin the video lessons, no refunds will be issued.
2. No refunds will be issued if the course is not completed by the end date for the class.
